Three Amtrak routes travel to Arizona: the Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle. You can board these trains in cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Little Rock. If your starting station is not on one of these routes, you’ll have to ride more than one train to reach the state. See the Arizona station list below to see the places you can visit.

Where to go

Tucson and Flagstaff are great cities for tourists. Both are in walkable areas near hotels and attractions. You can also reach national parks with a rental car or guided tour. Flagstaff is the gateway for the Grand Canyon and Tucson is the gateway for Saguaro National Park.

You can also reach Phoenix via the Maricopa train station. Choose Phoenix as your destination when booking your tickets for a connecting bus shuttle. Top things to do in Phoenix include wandering the Desert Botanical Gardens, going on a hot air balloon ride and visiting one of the many museums. There are even day tours to Sedona.

For a romantic getaway, consider a trip to Winslow. A beautiful old hotel, La Posada, is next to the train station. Or if you’re craving sunshine and a small town atmosphere, Yuma has been designated as the sunniest place in the world. You can walk less than 15 minutes from the Amtrak station to reach two hotels (Home2 Suites and Hilton Garden Inn Pivot Point) and downtown vacation rentals.
