Just north of New York City, Connecticut is an easy destinations to reach by train, especially if you are starting the trip on the East Coast. You can board a train in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia for a direct commute, and there are five Amtrak routes to choose from: Acela, Hartford Line, Northeast Regional, Valley Flyer and the Vermonter.

If your starting location is not in one of the above states or near one of the above routes, you will have to ride more than one train to reach Connecticut. Boston, New York City and Washington D.C. and major transfer points to trains that will take you to the state.
