Full of iconic blues and rock-and-roll venues, Memphis is a stop on Amtrak’s City of New Orleans route. Trains travel between Chicago and New Orleans (two major transfer points to other Amtrak routes), with Memphis approximately the half-way point. Stations are in Illinois, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

- Travel time is about 8.5 hours from New Orleans and 10.5 hours from Chicago.
- Southbound trains arrive early in the morning.
- Northbound trains heading toward Chicago arrive late at night.
- Roomettes and bedrooms are available on the train, which allows you to bring and drink your own alcohol on board and have sleeping accommodations.
