To reach Colorado by train, book tickets on the California Zephyr or Southwest Chief Amtrak routes. Trains travel between Chicago and California with stops in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona. If you are starting the trip from a different location, you can transfer to Colorado-bound trains in Chicago, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Emeryville, California.
Note that Amtrak does not travel to Boulder or Colorado Springs. There are train stations in Fort Morgan, Denver, the Rocky Mountains and near the New Mexico border. View Amtrak stations in Colorado to learn more. Amtrak buses might be available to travel to Colorado cities that don’t have a train station.
