Tips and Things to Know
- Many of the Amtrak stations are in walkable areas, including in Raleigh, Durham and Greensboro (click the links to view station area maps).
- The Charlotte Amtrak station is not in the city center (Uptown). Plan to get a Lyft, Uber or taxi after you arrive. There are plans to move the train station to a central, walkable area by 2030 (learn more).
- Hamlet is a historic railroad town and the 1900 train station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Southern Pines is a hidden-gem destination with a charming downtown and famous golf courses nearby.
- Greenville, SC is the closest Amtrak stop to Asheville. You’ll need to rent a car there and drive about 1.5 hours. The other option is to ride a Greyhound bus from Charlotte to Asheville.
