Reno is a fun destination on the California Zephyr route with casinos and a scenic riverwalk. You can board the train in Chicago, Emeryville, and many places in between, including Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Omaha. It’s an easy trip if you start at a station on the route, otherwise this trip will require a train transfer.

Reno Amtrak Station
The Reno Amtrak station is in a very walkable area at 280 University Way (view map). You can easily get around without a car, but if needed, you can walk nine minutes to the Silver Legacy Casino to rent one with Enterprise. The north edge of Lake Tahoe is less than and multiple ski resorts are less than an hour drive away.
Why Visit Reno
Reno is the gateway to Lake Tahoe and is full of casinos, live entertainment, and other things to do if you prefer to stay in town. The Emigrant Trail, Donner Party, and Lake Tahoe Tour is a great way to explore area highlights without a car. You’ll also find the National Automobile Museum here.
