Leavenworth is a quaint Bavarian town in Washington State. It’s surrounded by the Cascade Mountains and there are snowmobile, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, plus holiday lights, a winter carnival and even a reindeer farm, making it a charming winter getaway. Or visit in the fall or summer for Oktoberfest, hiking, rock climbing, river rafting and other water sports.
Amtrak’s Empire Builder trains stop daily at the Leavenworth Icicle Station (one train in each direction per day). You can board the Empire Builder in cities including Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Minot, Browning, Whitefish, Spokane and Seattle. The trip is relatively short if you start on the West Coast — travel time from Seattle is about 3.5 hours and only 2.5 hours from Everett.
To see all your travel options, enter your starting station and Leavenworth on the Amtrak.com homepage (allow a few seconds for the “find trains” feature to appear):

After arriving in Leavenworth, you’ll need to arrange for transportation. The train station is about a five-minute drive away from downtown Leavenworth where you can stay at a variety of accommodations, including the top-rated Bavarian Lodge, Obertal Inn and Adventure Inn, and walk to restaurants and the Waterfront Park. We recommend coordinating a ride with Leavenworth Shuttle. Lyft and Uber drivers are in the area, but may not be available due to Leavenworth being in a remote area.
