Leavenworth is a quaint Bavarian town in Washington State. It’s surrounded by the Cascade Mountains and there are snowmobile, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, plus holiday lights, a winter carnival and even a reindeer farm, making it a charming winter getaway. Or visit in the fall or summer for Oktoberfest, hiking, rock climbing, river rafting and other water sports.
Amtrak directions
Amtrak’s Empire Builder trains stop daily at the Leavenworth Icicle Station (one train in each direction per day). You can board the Empire Builder in cities including Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Minot, Whitefish, Spokane and Seattle. The trip is relatively short if you start on the West Coast; travel time from Seattle is about 3.5 hours and only 2.5 hours from Everett.

Transportation from the train station
After arriving in Leavenworth, you’ll need to arrange for transportation. We recommend coordinating a ride with Leavenworth Shuttle. You can also look into a rental car with Turo; a car can potentially be left for you at the train station.
Where to stay
Downtown Leavenworth is very walkable and a great place to stay. The train station is about a five-minute drive away and you can stay at a variety of accommodations, including vacation rentals and the top-rated Bavarian Lodge, Hotel Pension Anna, Obertal Inn and The Suites on Main.
