Lake Tahoe does not have an Amtrak train station, but there are a few different options for combining a train trip with a car rental, rideshare service or bus in order to reach the lake. Explore options below.

Car Rental or Rideshare

The Truckee, California Amtrak Station on the California Zephyr route is the closest station to Lake Tahoe. Drive time is about 30 minutes to the north end of the lake. There is an Enterprise rental car office nearby, but you’ll need to use a taxi or rideshare service to get there (pick-up service not available). You can also take Uber or Lyft to Kings Beach for about $40.

For an easier car rental option, you can also take the train to Reno and rent a car there. Drive time is about 45 minutes to North Lake Tahoe. You can walk to Enterprise in about 8 minutes from the Reno Amtrak Station.

Amtrak Bus Connection

Amtrak provides bus service to Stateline, California, which is near the Edgewood Tahoe Resort, Heavenly Mountain Resort and Lakeside Inn and Casino. You can take a San Joaquins, Capitol Corridor, Coast Starlight or California Zephyr Amtrak train to the Sacramento Valley Station and transfer to the bus. Trip time is about 2.5 hours on the bus. Choose Stateline as your destination when booking your Amtrak tickets to get route information.
