Lake Tahoe does not have an Amtrak train station, but there are a few different options for getting there by train if you are willing to make a transfer to a bus or rent a car.

Car Rental

The Truckee, California Amtrak Station (in between Reno and Sacramento on the California Zephyr route) is the closest station to Lake Tahoe. Drive time is about 30 minutes to the north end of the lake and there is an Enterprise rental car office nearby. Call ahead to plan for pick up from the Amtrak station after reserving a car.

Amtrak Bus Connection

Amtrak provides bus service to Stateline, California, which is near the Edgewood Tahoe Resort, Heavenly Mountain Resort and Lakeside Inn and Casino. You can take a San Joaquins, Capitol Corridor, Coast Starlight or California Zephyr Amtrak train to the Sacramento Valley Station and transfer to the bus. Trip time is about 2.5 hours on the bus. Choose Stateline as your destination when booking your Amtrak tickets to get route information.
