Overview

Amtrak does not travel to Alaska, but you can ride a train to Washington State and board a ferry there to reach multiple Alaska port cities. Popular ferry stops include Ketchikan (pictured above), Juneau, Sitka and Skagway.

Routes

To reach Alaska via Amtrak, book tickets to Bellingham, Washington on the Cascades route. You can walk five minutes from the train station to reach the Alaska State Ferry.

Schedule

Two northbound trains arrive in Bellingham each day, one in the morning and one at night.

You can also travel southbound from Vancouver BC to reach Bellingham (morning and early evening arrivals).

Use the Find Trains feature on the Amtrak.com homepage to view current train options from your starting station (schedules subject to change).

Other Things to Know

Cascades trains depart from cities including Tacoma, Portland and Seattle.

The Empire Builder (which travels through the Upper Midwest and Rockies) and Coast Starlight (which departs from Los Angeles and other cities in California, Oregon and Washington) are long-distance routes that you can ride to connect with the Cascades.
