For a fun mountain vacation, take a train trip to reach LOGE Glacier in Montana (formerly the Isaak Walton Inn). The historic building was constructed in 1939 by the Great Northern Railroad and was recently renovated. Amenities include a sauna, trails (for hiking and skiing) and cross-country ski gear rentals for adults and kids. You can also choose from a variety of accommodations including rooms in the main lodge, cabins, Withrow House (pictured above) and even in a caboose.
LOGE Glacier is a six-minute walk from the Essex Amtrak Station on Amtrak’s Empire Builder route. You can board this this train in cities including Seattle, Portland, Spokane, St. Paul, Milwaukee and Chicago. Travel time is 15.5 hours from Seattle and Portland, 23 hours from St. Paul and 31 hours from Chicago. Sleeping accommodations are available on the train if desired and include free meals, water and coffee.
